Ultima World Records

"Ultima Sports Ltd embarked upon a mission to prove that the Ultima could accelerate, decelerate and corner more rapidly than every other supercar on the planet, and succeeded"

Richard Marlow

Director - Ultima Sports

First 0-100-0mph World Record

Driven by Ultima Director, Richard Marlow, the factory built Ultima GTR set a new world record time of 10.3 seconds to achieve 0-100mph-0 smashing the previous record by half a second. The British built super car stormed from 0-60mph in 2.8 seconds and reached 100mph from standstill in an incredible 5.9 seconds before coming back to rest a mere 4.4 seconds later. The 100mph to zero braking time, not including the driver’s reaction time, was just 3.97 seconds.

All of the times were set by a standard, factory built, fully road legal, road tyred Ultima GTR built using all of the high spec factory specified and proven parts. The car was even equipped with heavy luxuries such as air conditioning but no traction control devices; launch control systems or ABS braking aids were used. The car was fitted with its recommended Porsche G50 5 speed transaxle and normally aspirated 640BHP 377ci Chevrolet V8 engine. Thus, this Ultima was named the Ultima GTR640.

This record time beat the legendary £630,000 McLaren F1 road car by well over a full second at less than one tenth of the cost!

Richard Marlow, Director of Ultima Sports Ltd said at the time "The 0-100mph-0 test is believed by many to be the ultimate test for any car and is a true indicator of a car’s all round performance ability. We haven't strapped any timing gear onto one of our cars for a few years now and decided that the time was right to demonstrate to everybody how we have been successfully developing our product over the years and gained a world record in the process. We also wanted to achieve over 200mph at the relatively short Bruntingthorpe runway on the same day however severe rain and thunderstorms curtailed this for now but it didn't stop Ted [Marlow] from achieving a rather interesting 192mph pass in the wet on standing water with over 1500rpm still available!"

The test was conducted, overseen and verified by an official from Datron Technology and the latest state of the art GPS timing gear was utilised to achieve and ensure maximum accuracy. A submission was made to the world-renowned Guinness Book of Records.

Second 0-100-0mph World Record

The Ultima factory proved beyond any doubt that the Ultima GTR is the fastest accelerating and decelerating road car on the planet by setting a new world record time of 9.8 seconds for the 0-100mph-0 sprint. This was the first ever sub ten seconds 0-100mph-0 recorded in the world!

The standard factory production specification Ultima GTR was powered by a 377ci 685bhp Chevrolet V8 engine once again built by American Speed which is the official Original Equipment engine supplier to Ultima. This engine is a standard part option available from the American Speed pricelist. Thus, this Ultima was named the Ultima GTR685.

The Ultima GTR stormed from 0-60mph in 2.8 seconds and 0-100mph in 5.8 seconds which are in themselves world record times, and braked from 100mph to zero in just 3.6 seconds.

Richard Marlow, director of Ultima Sports Ltd and driver of the Ultima GTR during the world record run said at the time "Our new world record once again proves that the Ultima GTR is truly the fastest supercar currently available in the world today, and by a substantial margin. What's more, as with all factory spec Ultima's, the devastatingly fast world record breaking GTR is equally at home on the public roads and it's an absolute pleasure to drive at normal road speeds thanks to the car's user-friendly nature and smooth power banded engine."

The Ultima GTR used on the successful record attempt was fully road legal, fitted with road tyres and was driven to and from the test venue. Once again the world record was strictly conducted, overseen and verified by an official from Datron Technology who are acknowledged by the Guinness Book of Records and the motoring press as official timekeepers, using state of the art Microsat GPS equipment.

A submission was sent to the Guinness Book of Records.

Ted Marlow commented "We are particularly delighted that we achieved two 9.8secs world record runs in a row for good measure. Also the data sheet shows that the full potential of the Ultima GTR at the 0-100mph-0 sprint still hasn't been realised because if you take our fastest recorded 0-100mph time of 5.5 seconds (achieved during a successful 0-150mph world record run in September 2004 when track temperature was higher) and marry it to our fastest recorded 100mph to zero braking time of 3.6 seconds, then a low 9 seconds 0-100mph-0 run is possible. That's something to aim for another day."

Third 0-100-0mph World Record

The Ultima factory, for the third consecutive year, smashed the world record for sprinting to 100mph and back to zero again in the all conquering, multiple world record holding 200mph Ultima GTR supercar.

Driven by Ultima Director, Richard Marlow, the British built and designed Ultima GTR road car set a new world record time of a staggering 9.4 secs for the 0-100mph-0 sprint. The GTR scorched from 0-60mph in 2.6 seconds, 0-100mph in 5.3 seconds and braked to zero from 100mph in a mind blowing 3.6 seconds, which are all in themselves road car world record times.

The Ultima GTR used for the successful record attempt was the factory's newly constructed standard production specification Ultima GTR, which was equipped with a new 720bhp Chevrolet V8 engine, and hence now known as the Ultima GTR720. The GTR720 was fully road legal, road tyred and equipped with a standard 5-speed G50 transmission and a standard production engine option from Ultima's official OE engine supplier American Speed. No traction control devices or ABS braking aids were used.

Richard Marlow commented at the time, "We always knew that the Ultima was more than capable of achieving performance figures of this calibre. There is no other supercar in history which can match the pace of the Ultima GTR in this discipline. Furthermore, the GTR720 is available at a fraction of the price of all other supercars and is also fantastic to drive at more sedate road speeds with its road friendly engine. It is currently being used as my daily driver in all weather conditions. I expect with these latest officially verified world records for the Ultima GTR to retain its title for a long time into the future as the fastest accelerating and decelerating supercar of all time. Along with all of our other previous world records we have achieved over the past couple of years, this is a superb showcase to officially demonstrate to the world just what the Ultima is capable of achieving and we have gained unprecedented worldwide automotive recognition and respect for our marque in the process".

Ted Marlow commented, "Quite frankly the Ultima has opened up a new league of road car performance with these new independently verified figures. The Ultima GTR with its superior power-to-weight ratio is now over two seconds quicker from 0-100mph-0 than the £750,000 McLaren F1 LM, and over one and a half seconds quicker than the £450,000 Ferrari Enzo. What’s more the GTR720 performed these world beating statistics consistently and reliably time after time. The mind boggling 30-70mph time of just 1.8 seconds is further proof that the Ultima is so far ahead of any other car in terms of outright performance."

This new catalogue of Ultima world records was once again strictly conducted, overseen and verified by an official from Datron Technology who are acknowledged by the Guinness Book of Records and the motoring press as official timekeepers. The use of their official Microsat GPS timing equipment, which is based on incorruptible data, provides irrefutable proof of the astonishing Ultima times. The Ultima GTR720 used for these records is a company demonstrator and was driven to and from the test venue.

A submission was forwarded to the Guinness Book of Records.

Top Gear Lap Records

British supercar manufacturers Ultima Sports Ltd celebrated their 15th year anniversary in style by obliterating the road car lap record on the track, which is used by Top Gear to record their lap times, by over four and a half seconds in their standard production Ultima GTR720 road car.
